Mrs. Vera R. Holley Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mrs. Vera R. Holley Entered into rest, Vera Reeves Holley, 85, of Harlem, Georgia, October 29, 2015. She was the beloved wife of David G. Holley. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on August 2nd of this year. Mrs. Holley was a kind person who enjoyed her family, loved her church, and found pleasure in working. In her younger days, she was a telephone operator for Southern Bell in Augusta and, upon transferring to Harlem, she was the chief operator. In her thirties, she opened Holley’s Beauty Shop which she operated for many years in Harlem. She liked everything about her business; the fashion and the trends and even the hard work. In time, her love for flowers led her to jointly open Holley’s Florist which she merged with the beauty shop operation. She was a Christian and a lifelong member of Silver Run Baptist Church in Harlem and she taught in Sunday School classes, Training Union classes, and was the Director of the Women’s Missionary Union for many years. She believed in being in her place at church and being faithful in her service to the Lord. From her childhood memories, she would recall walking from her home through the woods to the Reeves Schoolhouse near Briar Creek in Dearing for church. Though having only limited services, it would cast a long shadow over her life and instill in her a love for God and His church. It was the one room schoolhouse that her Daddy and other ancestors had attended for both school and church and still stands near the family land and area where she was reared. It also was the place where she first met her future husband when they were teenagers. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, David G. Holley; her sons, Terry Holley, Darryl Holley (Leona) and Tim Holley (Penny); Grandchildren include: Matthew Holley, Travis Holley, Megan Holley Hyman (Mark), Kaley Holley Wallace (Cullen), Carla Holley Gay (Alan), Christie Holley, Seth Holley (Paxy), and Sasha Holley. She also has six great-grandchildren. Another son, David G. Holley, Jr., preceded her in death in 1990. Graveside services will be held in the Harlem Memorial Cemetery on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM with the Revs. Pat Williams and Boyd Reeves officiating. Pallbearers will be the grandchildren. If so desired, memorials may be made to the Kilpatrick Baptist Association c/o the Women’s Missionary Union, 1784 Wrens Hwy, Thomson, GA 30824 or to a favorite charity of your choice.
