Mrs. Mary Ganus Washington-Ivy, beloved wife of 54 years to the late Milas L. "Mike" Washington, of Harlem, went to be with her Lord on January 3, 2022. Mrs. Mary was born in McDuffie County and was the daughter of the late Grover and Alma Ganus. She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church and loved her Lord deeply. Mrs. Mary was known for being a very generous lady. She gave unconditionally at every opportunity to anyone in need, doing everything she could to help people. Mrs. Mary enjoyed gardening and admiring God's beautiful creations. She had a deep admiration for music and used her musical talents to glorify God, share the Gospel and minister to others through her servant's heart. She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, and very loving grandmother who will be dearly missed. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her loving daughter-in-law, Sherri Washington; her brother, Johnny Ganus; and her sister, Jean Beggs. Survivors include two sons, Louis C. Washington and Charles Grant (Cecille) Washington; her daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" (Tony) Curtis; her sister Edith Dillard; six grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. A time of fellowship and visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 - 8 PM at Starling Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 15, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Bethesda Baptist Church, with Dr. Clayton Galloway and M.L. Barber officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Heartland Hospice, 153 Davis Rd., Augusta GA, 30907. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the care and love shown to Mrs. Mary by hospice staff.
