Evelyn Elizabeth Morris

September 10, 1939 - May 7, 2022

Evelyn Elizabeth Reynolds Morris, 82, affectionately known as "Boots," passed away May 7, 2022, at Piedmont Augusta Hospital. She was born in Harlem, Georgia, to Julia Elizabeth Rabun and Clarence Washington Reynolds, the youngest of five children. She graduated from Harlem High School in 1956 where she was a standout on the girls basketball team. Boots was a lifelong resident of Columbia County, moving to Appling in 1957, where she and her late husband of 55-years, Larry Melvyn Morris, began their family. She worked for 25-years at Columbia County Department of Family and Children Services. She started as a clerk and later traveled to all parts of the county as a caseworker. Always willing to help someone, Boots was generous with her time, talents, and resources. She retired as Assistant Director in 1994, then spent her time traveling with her husband and enjoying her grandchildren and time in the mountains. A lover of good food, she was known for her own skills in the kitchen. Most family members will tell you they have a favorite dish she made, like MaMa's macaroni and cheese. She was happiest when her family and friends were gathered around her table eating a home-cooked meal. She loved genealogy, visiting with loved ones and "going for a ride," never knowing where it might take her. Boots was proud to be deemed the youngest member of Harlem Baptist Church at the groundbreaking for the new sanctuary where she was later baptized. Upon marriage, she joined Kiokee Baptist Church where she raised her family, taught Sunday School and served on many committees. For the last several years, she was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church. She made many close friends there and enjoyed all the women's ministry had to offer. A member of the "Senior Fan Club" of the Harlem Bulldogs, she regularly attended home baseball, softball, and football games and even took a few road trips to support the teams. Boots was a fixture in the stands with her beautiful white hair and will be missed on the sidelines. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and her family takes comfort knowing she is healed and whole in her eternal home. She made it in time to spend Mother's Day with her mother for the first time in 35-years. She is survived by her children, Juanita Morris Tucker (Sonny), Larry "Kookie" Morris, Jr. (Tyna), and Rhonda Morris; her grandchildren, Darrell Tucker (Laura), Paige Tucker Long (Jack), Tyler Tucker, Ashley Morris Bagwell (Keith), Katelyn Morris, Hannah Glover and Jackson Glover; her great-grandchildren, Pearson, Elizabeth Ann and Phillip Tucker, Julia Reynolds Long, Caiden and Maddox Bagwell. She was the beloved matriarch of both the Reynolds and Morris families, which include many nieces, nephews and cousins and special childhood friend, Rosa Ann McNair Boswell. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Donnie Bartles Sunday School class and the Harlem High School softball and baseball "Senior Fan Club." A service to celebrate the life of Boots Morris will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, May, 13, 2022, at Trinity Baptist Church in Martinez, GA. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Kiokee Baptist Church in Appling. The family will receive friends at noon before the service at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Boots Morris to The Unlimbited Foundation at the Paley Institute (unlimbited.org ), where her granddaughter Hannah received treatment. Please notate the donation is in memory of Evelyn "Boots" Morris.
